1/3 of the world's population does not have access to essential medicines. |
Overview
UAEM is an international, student driven organization that seeks to improve access to and affordability of life-saving medicines researched and developed at universities. Our History UAEM was founded in 2001 by Yale students who worked to convince the university and the pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb to allow generic production of an HIV/AIDS drug, resulting x30 drug price reductions. This campaign demonstrates the power of student activism and the central role that research universities play in distribution and access to essential, life saving medications. UAEM began here and evolved into a national movement with over 100 chapters in 20 countries around the world. |
