In his spare time, he loves watching 49ers football, spending time with friends and family, and watching Survivor. By Kanon Mori Kanon is a sophomore student at UCLA fascinated by the intersection of health, policy, and technology to advocate for a more equitable American healthcare system. Besides academics, Kanon loves training with her Triathlon team, traveling with her family, and exploring restaurants in LA with her friends! He's originally from Minneapolis, MN and is passionate about the intersection between medicine, technology, and public health/policy and how it can be leveraged to make healthcare more advanced and accessible to all. In his free time, he likes spending time with friends and family, obsessing over his fantasy football lineup, and learning how to improve his golf game. By Shivesh Shourya Shivesh (he/him) is a third year Neuroscience major who is also pursuing a minor in Society and Genetics at UCLA. Shivesh is passionate to learn about the intersection of behavioral sciences and society’s relationship with biomedical research and innovation. He is particularly interested in advocating for the LGBTQ+ community, working towards de-stigmatizing HIV/AIDS, and learning about how public policy shapes access to essential medicines. While he is originally from Texas, Shivesh currently lives in New Jersey with his family. In his free time, Shivesh likes to cook/bake, listen to music (his favorite artist is Taylor Swift), and do calligraphy. He is a huge proponent of his chocolate-strawberry flavored smoothie and plain Cheerios. By Maddie Ward Maddie Ward (she/ her) is a first year pre-psychobiology major and aspiring trauma surgeon or critical care physician from Carlsbad, CA. She is most passionate about menstrual equity and mental health and joined UAEM because of her interest in healthcare policy. In her free time, Maddie enjoys playing the guitar or piano, singing, and hanging out with her cats. By Shruti Thakuria Shruti (she/her/hers) is a second-year Neuroscience major and plans to minor in Music Industry. She is most passionate about psychology, specifically the way that one's upbringing influences their adult personality. She lives with her family in the San Francisco Bay Area and is excited to learn about the way public policy affects healthcare access. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games (her current obsession is the Assassin's Creed franchise), discovering new music, and (before COVID) having food adventures and seeing movies with friends. She also really loves roller coasters and can't wait to go to 6 Flags with her friends when things go back to normal. By Graciana Paxton Graciana (she/her) is a first year pre-human biology and society major and plans to minor in public affairs. She lives with her family in Morgan Hill, CA and is fascinated by the intersection of medicine, research, and politics. She is passionate about various social justice issues, specifically those related medicine access in rural areas. Her hobbies include hiking with her dog, going to concerts and the movies (pre-Covid) and trying new food, teas and coffee.
