California Assembly Bill 85 was introduced by CA Assembly Member Weber on December 16, 2022. AB 85 sought to improve access to social determinants of health (SDOH) screenings, referrals, and community navigation services. Further, AB 85 aimed to improve relationships with community-based organizations and providers to increase follow-ups following screenings as well as collaborative efforts to assist patient social needs.
UAEM at UCLA members wrote letters of support and met with members of California state legislature to garner more support for the bill. AB 85 passed through the CA Assembly and Senate but was ultimately vetoed by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 7, 2023.
What is CA SB 90 (Wiener)?
California Senate Bill 90 was introduced by CA Senator Scott Wiener on January 17, 2023. SB 90 sought to prohibit any health care service plan contract or disability insurance policy from imposing a deductible on an insulin prescription drug or imposing a copayment of more than $35 for a 30-day supply of an insulin prescription.
